Creepy Experience That Is Inspiration Behind Stephen King’s The Shining

If you are a fan of Stephen King’s narrations, Zonegem is the place for you. Whether people like Stephen King or not, every book lover wonders where he gets ideas. The author has answered this question on his website by saying that he gets ideas from everywhere, seeing one or two things, combining them with some other new things, then coming up with something interesting while adding question ‘what if’, which is always the key element.

There is no secret to getting amazing story ideas. They may come by surprise or you may even have to go gold digging once in a while. Here is the tiny spark that Stephen turned into a great story:

The Shining:

One of the most popular novels written by King, The Shining was published in 1977. The story is inspired by Stephen and his wife’s stay at a hotel in Estes Park in Colorado. The couple was not aware prior to checking in that they were the only guests in the hotel as it had to be closed for winter from the next day. King was crossing the hotel’s hallways and this is where the idea of the ghost story involving a vacant hotel came to his mind.

Then, the idea got strong when Stephen dreamt of his three-year-old son terrified running around the hotel, being chased by a fire-hose. This crystallized his idea and the dream was so intense that he instantly got up from the bed, lit a cigarette and started creating the outline of narrative The Shining.
